Our flight, in Cessna 150 G-AVUH bound for Morocco, started at North Coates in Lincolnshire, and had resulted in a landing, because of bad weather, at R.A.F. Lyneham. The entry in my travelog for Alderney reads:
"We emerged two days later (from Lyneham) and set off for Alderney, where we topped up with cheap fuel. Fortunately the wind had dropped, or I’d have filed my flightplan from below with a loud-hailer rather than make the death-defying journey up the open-plan staircase to the tower".
