WV2575 : St Philip's Church, Torteval (Eglise St-Philippe de Torteval)

St Philip's Church, Torteval
The only round-towered church in the Channel Islands, St Philip's was built in 1818 replacing an ancient church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and known to have existed since the mid-11th century. The architect was John Wilson and the church is of grey granite. The weathervane atop the spire is dated 1774 and so presumably comes from the former church, as does one of the three bells which was cast in 1432 and is the oldest in the Channel Islands.
